Next Meeting at Chapala’s Mexican Restaurant on Monday, April 27th

The next meeting of the HBBCA will be on Monday, April 27th. The dinner meeting will be at Chapala’s Mexican Restaurant, 2nd and C  Streets in Eureka, from 6-8 pm. The primary agenda item is to discuss Bike Month Humboldt, celebrated for all of May.

May is Bike Month Humboldt 2026

The Bike Month Humboldt Coalition, Chaired by Stevie Luther, has been meeting since March 1 to plan the many events to be held in May, and to recognize other related events planned by others.

Included in this newsletter is the Bike Month Humboldt Poster which will be placed all around the Humboldt Bay Area and circulated to the media (see it in color on www.humbike.org). The poster was prepared by HBBCA member, Bruce Maxwell, who is also working on many events for the Coalition. Details on all events can be found on www.BikeMonthHumboldt.org, which may be updated several times before the end of April.

The signature event is the 4th Annual Bicycle Celebration & Expo to be held on Saturday, May 16th,  at the Jefferson Center park at A and Clark Streets. From 11 to 2 pm. The HBBCA will be giving away and fitting new youth helmets, thanks to generous donations by HBBCA members over the last year.  Rick Knapp will also be doing  “Fix a Flat” clinics at various times. Lots of fun things for adults and kids. New this year will be a Gear Swap and a Bike Show. Again this year, there will be lots of gift certificates from Adventure’s Edge and the HBBCA in free drawings. The next day, Rick Knapp will be leading a ride to the Moose Lodge Swedish Pancake breakfast from Old Town to Campton Road for those with a hankering for some Swedes, cost is $10. Leaving from The Old Town Gazebo at 9:30 a.m. sharp? Lots of other rides and events are listed on the website.

Who to Call When You See a Safety Concern (Rev. 9/27//24)  csr.

The HBBCA periodically checks with agencies in the Humboldt Bay region to determine appropriate contact personnel to respond to bike-related issues.  If you see a condition that needs to be corrected in order to improve safety or convenience for cyclists such as a pothole in a bike lane, accumulated debris on a roadway shoulder, the need to re-stripe a bike lane, the need to clear vegetation encroaching on a shoulder, or a street light that is out, call the responsible agency/person listed below.  Of course, if you see a condition that requires immediate attention, like a stop sign knocked down, call 9-1-1.  For non-emergency conditions, the following contact information is provided:
