SPECIAL MEETING AND MIXER ON MARCH 25TH TO DISCUSS HOW TO IMPROVE AND ENCOURAGE BICYCLE COMMUTING

The HBBCA is inviting members and representatives of a number of different local governments and community organizations to participate in an evening of fun, food, drink and discussion about how to collectively and strategically improve and encourage bicycle commuting in the Humboldt Bay area.  Lend your ideas and hear other thoughts about how to improve facilities; provide needed support to seasoned, new and prospective riders; learn about Bike to Work Day plans; and consider ways that various organizations can better work together to achieve these objectives.

Have you been thinking you’d like to help but have little time and aren’t sure where to plug in?  This could be your chance to identify an effort of interest, form a team, and get rolling!  Just curious about what all of these organizations are up to?  Want to meet other commuters, or supporters of commuters, of all stripes and types?

The “Meeting of the Minds” will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 25th in the new McBain & Trushconference room, on the corner of 7th and J Streets in Arcata.  Snacks and drinks will be provided.   A strategic planning discussion will begin at 7:00 p.m., and we’ll wrap up with what the group decides are priorities and appropriate next steps!

If you would like to help by providing snacks, sweets or drinks, let us know.   You may contact Scott Kelly, President (ph. 839-4336; email: scott@se-cm.com ).  Also please RSVP your attendance as there is limited room available, and we may have to cut off attendance to the first 30.

A special thanks to McBain & Trush for their support of bicycle commuting.

NEXT  REGULAR MEETING IN ARCATA ON MARCH 28

The next regular HBBCA meeting will be held at Luzmilla’s  Mexican Restaurant at 13th and G Streets in Arcata on Monday, March 28th.  It will be a dinner meeting (dinner optional), starting at 6:30 p.m.  The meeting is open to the public.  Those who attend set the agenda.   One item to be discussed will be continued efforts on Strategic Planning for the HBBCA and results of the special outreach meeting to be held March 25th, and discussed above.

WHO TO CALL WHEN YOU SEE A SAFETY CONCERN (Revised 6/04)

The HBBCA has checked with agencies in the Humboldt Bay region to determine whom to contact if you see a condition that needs to be corrected in order to improve the safety or convenience for cyclists.  This might include a pothole in the bike lane, accumulated debris on a roadway shoulder, the need to re-stripe a bike lane, or the need to clear vegetation encroaching on the shoulder.

Of course, if you see a condition that requires immediate emergency action, call 9-1-1.  For other conditions, the following is provided:
