Activities included Bike to Work energy stations and rallies, Arts Alive bike rides in Eureka and Arcata, bike and gear swap, bike art exhibit, and bike rodeos. Check out the humbike.org website for a photo gallery highlighting the events. Major thanks go to members of the coalition and sponsors. These include the North Coast Co-Op, Humboldt County Public Health, Caltrans, City of Arcata, Bigfoot Bicycle Club, Green Wheels, Humboldt Partnership for Active Living, Redwood Community Action Agency, BikesThere.com, the Outdoor Store, Revolution Bicycle Repair, Henderson Center Bicycles, and Adventure’s Edge. SHARE THE ROAD CAMPAIGN CONDUCTED IN MAY The HBBCA worked with News Channel 3 to develop and air 70 Share the Road ads during Bike Month. We have received lots of positive feedback on the ads. If you haven’t seen them, there are three different ads, and they can be seen by going to our website at www.humbike.org. A big thanks to Oona Smith, Melanie Williams, Brett Gronemeyer, and Tony Snow who helped Rick Knapp make his concept a reality.BikeSmart TRAINING BEING OFFERED THIS SUMMER For the 19th consecutive year, the HBBCA is offering BikeSmart training for the youth of the Humboldt Bay Region. The training includes helmet fitting, rules of the road instruction and one hour of on-street training. For further information, contact Rick Knapp, 445-1097 for an application; or get one from the www.humbike.org website. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dear Editor, MANY THANKS to all those responsible for the ads, which aired on television in May. I also saw them on youtube. Carman Gentile Dear Rick Knapp and members of HBBCA, I saw the public service announcements and was so pleased to have Jerome's name attached to them. Jerome was a dedicated bike commuter and committed to those principles promoting human powered transportation. It heartened me to see those Share the Road messages. Sincerely, Also received from Lisa Hoover was a very nice thank you card (misplaced by Rick Knapp), in which she expressed her sincere thanks for the Share the Road ads and for remembering her husband, Greg Jennings, in the ads. Lisa and her father-in-law each donated $500 toward the ads to go with $1,000 that had been donated in memory of Dr. Jerome Lengyel. Dear Rick, Thanks for the Humboldt Bike Map. It got to Whitethorn before I did (I’m a little less organized than you are)! One of the best bicycle maps I’ve ever seen, favorably comparable to the Chicago Area map. Enjoyed the meeting of the HBBCA; quite an educational experience. Just might show up on July 26th. J. R. Anderson HBBCA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
